It is suspected that the water of a well in Gaunsawado, Mapusa, has been polluted. Due to this, around 10-12 families who depend on this well are affected. After the locals contacted the health department, the well water samples have been sent for testing.
According to the information received, four or five days ago, the residents of Gaunsawado had noticed that the colour of the water in the well had changed. They stopped using the well water for drinking due to the suspicion that the well water is polluted.
The residents informed the health officials, fire brigade about the water colour change. The reason behind this change in the colour of the water is not understood, and the people suspected that it was due to pollution.
Alka D’Souza, a resident, said, “It has been four days since our well got polluted in Gaunsawado. We informed the health department about the well through a statement. All of us residents depend on this well. As it is not suitable to use this water for drinking, we have arranged other water for sustenance.”
Another resident said, this is the first time that the colour of the well water has changed. “We have around 10-12 families depending on this well water,”he added.
For this, he demanded that the concerned government officials should resolve this issue.
When contacted, councillor Prakash Bhivshet said, information has been received that the well in Gaunsawado has been polluted. But the exact reason behind it is not understood. Health officials have taken samples of the well, and the exact cause will come out from the test report. Accordingly, we will take necessary action through the municipality.
