A councillor from the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) has filed a complaint with the Agonda panchayat, accusing a company of blocking the traditional path to the southern-end of Agonda beach.

Responding to requests from some locals, Canacona Councillor Shubham Komarpant inspected the place and later lodged a complaint with the Agonda Panchayat secretary.

Komarpant stated that a gate had been erected which blocked the natural and traditional access to the beach at the Val-side of the 2.9-km long Agonda beach coast, thereby denying access to vehicles and people.

Komarpant claimed that the concrete poles and iron gate were erected in CRZ area without any prior permission from the Panchayat or other authorities. He stated that this is against Supreme Court guidelines which clearly state that no one is authorised to close any traditional pathway or public access to beach and rivers without permission.

Komarpant has requested the Agonda panchayat secretary to take swift action and open the road access to general public.
