Questioning the education department’s decision to hold offline exams, the Congress on Saturday demanded postponement of the offline exams for students of classes 10 and 12.
It also said taking offline exams would be unfair for the students since their classes were held online due to the pandemic.
The North Goa District Congress President,Vijay Bhike said parents and students have requested the government to reconsider its decision to hold the board exams scheduled to be held next month and Congress supports their demand and will write to the education department to take the necessary action in the matter.
“The exams should be postponed or an alternate assessment method for the board exams needs to be adopted. Holding physical exams during the pandemic will be a threat to their lives as most of the students are not yet fully vaccinated,” Bhike said.
The North Goa District Congress chief was addressing the media along with general secretary of NGDCC, Jitendra Gaokar, treasurer, Mitali Gadekar and secretary, Sachin Kitlekar.
Speaking further, Bhike said final final examination results of the first term have not yet been declared even as the students as well as parents were anxious as they did not know their standing.
He further said that the students were uncertain whether prelims will be held before their board examination.
“Some of the students claimed that their syllabus was completed haphazardly via the online teaching method. While others point out that it was difficult to concentrate and understand what was taught during the online classes due to network issues,” he said.
In such circumstances, he said the students would find it difficult to sit for board examinations with minimal preparation while coping with a learning gap after almost two years of school shutdown.
Incidentally, a petition had been filed in a court requesting that the CBSE and other educational boards, which have suggested offering board exams in an offline format for classes 10 and 12, devise alternative evaluation methods.
