It was an irony of sorts for the Congress as its firebrand leader Janardhan Bhandari, who was suspended from the party in an office memorandum dated July 25, was felicitated by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Thursday.
According to reports, Indian Youth Congress (IYC) National President Srinivas B V felicitated Janardhan Bhandari for his “outstanding contribution” to NSUI, GPYC and Congress Party in Goa from last 33 years, during the IYC National Convention in Bengaluru.
Bhandari is attending the 3-day IYC National Convention "Behtar Bharat ki Buniyaad" in Bengaluru from July 26-28.
IYC National General Secretary (Karnataka State In-charge) Bunty Shelke had extended the invite to Bhandari to attend the National convention.
The Congress party in Goa had decided to suspend five Congress leaders, including Canacona’s Janardhan Bhandari from the party, with effect from June 30 ‘pending enquiry’, without assigning any reason.
The suspension order dated July 25, which has been signed by GPCC President Amit Patkar asks congressmen not to associate/involve with the five suspended persons in any manner whatsoever, pending enquiry, and this order was made public only on Wednesday.
“This felicitation at the IYC National Convention is an acknowledgement and recognition of my contribution to the Congress party in Goa,” said Bhandari, while speaking to The Goan from Bengaluru.
“My contribution to the Congress is well-known and appreciated even by Opposition parties in Goa. Though my own party leaders in Goa have failed to acknowledge my contribution, the National President of Indian Youth Congress Srinivas B V has recognised my work in the NSUI, GPYC and GPCC since the last 33 years,’ he added.
