Virtually endorsing Sancoale ZP member Mariano Rodrigues as the Congress face for the forthcoming Assembly election, GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro hailed works carried out by Rodrigues, and said the Congress party is looking for such candidates to be the people’s representatives.

While falling short of declaring Rodrigues the Congress candidate for Cortalim, Faleiro, however, admitted to The Goan that Rodrigues was the only candidate he had in mind as of now for Cortalim constituency.
Faleiro, who was the chief guest at two medical camps at Zuari Nagar and Cortalim organised by Cortalim Congress Block in association with Sancoale ZP, said: “The final selection of the candidates lies with the party high command. But I can say that Congress Party looks for candidates such as Mariano Rodrigues who apart from having charisma has contributed immensely to the people.”
Faleiro added more people are approaching the Congress party.
Speaking further, Faleiro said the turnout at Sunday’s camps showed the support that Rodrigues enjoyed with the masses. He said the recent Congress meeting at Vasco also had a tremendous response.
“People are fed up with the BJP. See their budget. What do they have for the common man?” Faleiro asked exuding confidence of Congress putting up a good show at the election hustings.
Later, Rodrigues, who incidentally celebrated his birthday on Sunday, said he was the Congress candidate for Cortalim constituency.
“There is no looking back,” Rodrigues said adding that he had already started his work in the constituency.
Others who were present were Velsao Sarpanch Henrique D’Mello, Cortalim Panch Anita Kenkre, former sarpanch of Velsao Nora D’Souza and Cortalim Block President Anthony Miranda, former Cortalim sarpanch Antonio Joao Fernandes, former Sancoale sarpanch Rocky Vales, Devendra Kenkre and GRE president Agnelo Rodrigues.
