The Congress on Monday launched its pilot e-membership drive in Goa, hoping to take the digital platform for membership to the party across the country by January 2020.
To this effect, an app was launched at the Goa headquarters where the who’s who of the party including All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary in-charge of organisation J D Seelam, AICC social media chairman Rohan Gupta, AICC Chairman of Technology and Data Analysis Pravin Chakraborty, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, senior leaders Eduardo Faleiro,
Pratapsingh Rane, and Ravi Naik, and district presidents Joe Dias and Vijay Bhike were present.
Addressing the media, Seelam said that the e-membership drive was a pilot project of the AICC launched in Goa, which they hoped would become a model for the rest of the country.
“We launched this membership drive in the hope of interacting with voters of the party more regularly. As an institution or organisation, we don’t interact with the voters, even if individual Congress leaders do. The digital membership is advantageous over traditional membership, which is difficult to keep track of. We hope that the Goa model can be introduced all over the country,” Seelam said.
The party is looking to enrol a minimum of 100 members in every booth in the State, aiming for around 1,75,000 - 2,00,000 new members with this drive.
Those interested can become formal members of the party via the new app “Congress Party Membership” which can be downloaded from Playstore on Android phones. Those interested just need to fill in their phone numbers. They will then get an OTP for confirmation of the phone number. Further, the member’s full name, Voter ID card number and a selfie are required.
