PANAJI
The tenant-purchase of multiple parcels of land at Azossim-Mandur has been abruptly halted by Tiswadi Sub-Divisional Officer (Deputy Collector) following a formal complaint by St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar.
Stay ordered
The Deputy Collector has directed the mamlatdar and joint mamlatdar to halt the proceedings in their respective courts and refrain from making any changes to records and documents until further orders.
The land parcels cover a total area of 1.15 lakh sq m, and the proceedings are based on a disputed tenancy claim by a non-resident.
Villagers object
Sources said that, over the past few days, local villagers had raised concerns over the alleged dubious acquisition of the land, warning that any future development in the area could affect the heritage value of Kadamba-era sites and the Navadurga temple.
Prof Ramrao Wagh had also met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant earlier this week, accompanied by a group of villagers, to object to the developments and seek the intervention of the authorities.
Proceedings suspended
Sources said proceedings relating to the land parcels under Survey Nos. 7/0, 64/1 and 6/0 had been ordered to be halted, effectively keeping in abeyance the May 27 judgment and the consequential purchase order dated October 9, 2026, until further orders.
The Deputy Collector has also directed the mamlatdar and joint mamlatdar not to process or certify any changes in Form I and XIV or other revenue records pertaining to the land.
Next hearing
The next hearing is scheduled for November 24 before the Deputy Collector.
