Goa has screened over 2.15 lakh women for breast cancer under its Swasth Mahila, Swasth Goa initiative, covering nearly 70 per cent of women aged 30 and above since its launch in October 2021.
According to a government statement, the programme uses portable, radiation-free iBreastExam technology to extend screening services through health facilities and community outreach camps. It is supported by the SBI Foundation and Yuvraj Singh Foundation (YouWeCan).
Of the women screened, 3,925 positive findings were recorded, including 96 cancer cases. More than 3,700 clinically relevant breast lumps were also identified and referred for further evaluation.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the initiative aims to make screening accessible at people’s doorsteps.
The next phase will target another 50,000 women, with the government aiming to cover the entire eligible female population by the end of 2027.
