Colvale Police has booked a jail inmate on charges of assaulting another inmate in the premises of Colvale jail on Tuesday.
Acting on a complaint by jail authorities, police registered an offence against the accused under trial, Aziz Asif under Section 324 (causing hurt with dangerous weapon) of the IPC.
According to reports, the accused struck the other inmate Gajinder Singh (Chotu) with an object on the right side of his face after breakfast on the stairs of the jail on Tuesday.
The victim was then rushed to the North Goa District Hospital and after treatment sent back to the jail.
“The investigation is under progress. We have registered an offence under Section 324 of the IPC against the accused. A panchanama has been conducted and we are waiting for the medical certificate,” said Colvale PI, Somnath Mahajik.
The accused Aziz Asif is a professional thief who broke into tourist rooms and was involved in snatching mobiles, bags and gold chains.
Several cases have been registered against him in Goa, Karnataka and other states.
He was arrested by Calangute Police in Bangalore in September last year.
Gajinder Singh (Chotu) was arrested for his involvement in the vandalism of Souza Lobo restaurant in Calangute two months ago.
