Covid battle: South Goa Congress honours doctors

Doctors who were honoured by the South Goa district Congress Committee on Sunday.

The devastating Covid pandemic has put extra pressure on the medical fraternity, said former Union Minister Eduardo Faleiro on Sunday while appreciating the doctors in Goa who are “working tirelessly round the clock to save the lives of the people”. 

“Health care workers have emerged as God’s angels for many families whose family members were saved by the doctors from critical situations. It is the duty of each one of us to take maximum care and precautions to ensure that we all remain away from the Covid infection. People must take self care in Covid pandemic and reduce the work load of Doctors”, Faleiro said.

He was speaking at the felicitation function of the doctors by the South Goa District Congress Committee. Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, ex-CM Luizinho Faleiro, former minister Aleixo Sequeira, South Goa District Congress President Joe Dias were present on the dais.

He added: “We are committed to serve the people and we will try our best to save each and every life. We request the people to take medical advice immediately if they find any symptoms of Covid or any other disease. Doctors too have limitations and can perform their duties if they know about the ailment well in time”.

The former Union minister made a fervent plea to the people to exercise maximum precaution and maintain social distancing, wear masks to keep the Covid away. 

“We all are thankful to the Congress Party for recognizing our work and felicitating us today, stated Dr Rajesh Naik while speaking at the function. He spoke on behalf of the 11 doctors who were felicitated on Sunday. 

The doctors felicitated were Dr VV Molio, Dr Rajesh Naik, Dr Pravin Bhat, Dr Rajeshwar Naik, Dr Samuel Arawatigi, Dr Sujoy Das, Dr Milind Dessai, Dr Sudhir Shet and Dr Rajesh Javerani, Dr Brennan Tavares and Dr Shashank Prabhudesai.

SGDCC President Joe Dias welcomed the gathering and expressed gratitude to all the doctors for accepting the felicitation. “Due to Covid restrictions we have decided to honour the health care fraternity in phases. During our next round we will reach out to the health care centres”, Joe said.

SGDCC Vice President Deepak Kharangate proposed a vote of thanks. SGDCC treasurer Peter Gomes and Arch Royla Fernandes conducted the proceedings.

GPCC General Secretary Subhash Faldessai, Adv Yemane D’Souza, Shivani Pagi, Floriano Colaco and other Congress functionaries were present at the function.
