Covid loses grip; only few patients in 2 Covid hospitals

MARGAO
For the first time since the second wave overwhelmed the city’s Covid hospitals with patients, putting strain on the availability of beds, the number of patients admitted to the ESI hospital has come down to 50 as on Sunday at 7 pm.

Similarly, the number of patients undergoing treatment at the 568-bedded South Goa District Hospital has also come down below the 200-mark as on Sunday.

ESI hospital medical Superintendent Dr Vishwajit Faldesai informed that there were around 50 patients in the hospital at 7 pm as on Sunday. He admitted that this is the first time that the number of patients admitted to the hospital has come down to 50.

Following the second wave of the pandemic, the ESI Hospital had resumed its operations in April after remaining shut since December 10 last year. In fact, when the hospital resumed its operations, the ESI Hospital had received around 70 patients on day one, indicating the severity of the situation then.

Of the 50 patients admitted to the hospital, only 27 of them are on oxygen, while seven are on Remdesivir.

The hospital admitted only two patients on Sunday, while around 13 patients were discharged and two shifted to other Covid hospitals.

Around 185 beds were available in the ESI hospital as on Sunday evening.

At the South Goa district hospital, around 199 patients were undergoing treatment as on Sunday evening, indicating that the situation has further improved.

Officials pointed out that around 369 beds were vacant in the 568-bedded South Goa district hospital at around 9 pm on Sunday.
