Festivites gained steam and entourages grew longer as idols of the revered Lord Ganesha were immersed at traditional points along water bodies on the 5th day 'visarjan' on Wednesday.
Police struggled to maintain order and coerce people to maintain the precautionary physical distancing necessitated by the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic.
As multiple processions of people accompanying the idols converged at the immersion spots, police contingents got outnumbered.
Nonetheless, the fear of the pandemic did not manage to stifle the enthusiasm of the devotees who chanted devotional hymns as they accompanied the lord's idols for immersion.
Meanwhile, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) officials and the local police worked in full swing for a smoother Ganesh visarjan ceremony in the State capital amid the Covid crisis.
Maintaining social distancing during the festive ceremony was the biggest challenge, but with the cooperation of the people, the administration managed to maintain some order during the immersion ritual.
Dhristi Lifeguard, electricity department officials, river navigation, fire department officials also gave their valuable contribution during the immersion ceremony.
The Mayor of the City of Panaji thanked the citizens for following the SOP during the immersion ceremony of the idols of Lord Ganesh.
The mayor also thanked local MLA Atanasio Monserrate for his support. The major event was on Wednesday with a maximum number of people coming for immersion.
Before the immersion ceremony, the CCP sanitised the spots used for the visarjan of idols. People came out for the ceremony from around 5 pm and till 10 pm the ceremony ended.
People from Mala, Bhatlem came in large numbers for immersion. Meanwhile, nine more Covid positive cases were found in Panaji.
