In view of the alarming trend of rental bike operators giving tourists privately registered vehicles, the Goa police have initiated a crackdown on such practices by launching a special drive from Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Akshat Kaushal emphasised that renting out private vehicles violates the Motor Vehicles Act and the transport laws.
The Traffic SP also urged tourists to exercise caution and verify the authorization of the vehicle before renting such as checking the necessary papers.
“If a vehicle is not authorised for rent, tourists should refuse the service and promptly report the incident to the police,” he added.
The traffic police believe that this crackdown will curb the illegal practice of renting privately owned vehicles and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
