Goa’s ‘killer’ roads continue to claim innocent lives. Even though drunken driving is considered as the prime reason for road accidents, this may not be entirely true, especially when Goans are involved in such accidents.
There have been several self-accidents that have been reported in the state in the past few days. It was indeed a black Sunday.
While a businessman died in a tragic self-accident in Vasco on Sunday, on the same day a 50-year-old man from Porvorim died in a self-accident at Bambolim.
Incidentally in a self-accident no other vehicular is involved. A scooter rider also lost his life in an accident at Dharbandora-Sanvordem junction on Sunday.
It is learnt that this is the third fatal mishap after two persons from the same locality had lost their lives in fatal accidents at the same turn in the past.
The main reasons for self-accidents involving a two-wheeler are distracted driving, reckless driving, speeding, not wearing a helmet, using the mobile while riding among others.
Defensive riding is the way to prevent road accidents. The golden rule is ‘Leave early, Drive slowly, Reach safely’. The youth should realize that roads are not race tracks and should stick to the prescribed seed-limit while also following the traffic rules.
