A baby crocodile was removed from the Vaddem creek pond by local youth and it was later handed over to the forest department.
A trap was laid by an animal rescuer Gracias Coutinho two days ago after a huge crocodile was spotted near the road in the vicinity of the creek pond at Vaddem.
However, a baby crocodile was trapped early Wednesday morning.
Locals claim two more crocodiles, one large crocodile and another baby crocodile are still at large.
Locals have planned to lay more traps to rescue the other crocodiles as well.
Speaking to reporters, Coutinho said locals had no option but to lay a trap.
"We had spotted crocodiles 15 days ago and our locals had informed forest authorities about the spotting of crocodile in the residential area. Officials paid a visit here and went back, doing nothing in the process. We had no option but to tackle the issue ourselves.”
“We were alarmed as one crocodile was spotted wandering in residential areas, especially at night. We then decided to unite and lay a trap and finally, we got one crocodile that has been rescued and handed over to the forest department.”
“This crocodile was spotted last night but it gave us a slip more than three times and hid in the mangroves before finally getting caught in our trap. There could be two more crocodiles and we will try and trap them but we request the forest department to help us in this plan," said Coutinho.
