The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has expressed concerns regarding colleges failing to refund the admission fees of students who have secured admissions in other colleges.During the undergraduate admissions process last month, many students filled out admission forms in multiple colleges and even paid fees to secure their seats. However, on withdrawal of their applications from other colleges -- after securing a seat in their preferred college - students' requests for refund are allegedly shunned by the colleges.
"Some parents approached me saying it's causing a great hardship to them as the admission fees paid are not refunded by the colleges on the ground that necessary directives on refund of fees are awaited from Directorate of Higher Education,” former Convener of AAP Goa Rahul Mhambre said.
He demanded that the Directorate of Higher Education formalise a policy for refund of the admission fees in a time-bound manner and streamline the admission process for undergraduate courses.
Mhambre further highlighted challenges faced by the higher secondary students at Cujira complex citing inadequate buses by the Kadamba Transport Corporation.
“Kadamba has stopped issuing passes to students citing the inability to provide adequate buses. The Cujira education hub was built and schools were moved outside city limits, but it’s now unfortunate that students have to bear the brunt of inadequate transport facilities. Will the government act now and give relief to students," he questioned.
