A late-night altercation between two groups at Verla-Canca junction in Bardez resulted in cross complaints being registered by the police after both sides accused each other of assault and issuing death threats.
According to police, the first complaint was lodged by Vinita Sagar Gadekar of Khalapwado, Canca, on Sunday evening. She alleged that at around 10.15 pm on July 26, six members of the Kambli family – identified as Deepak Kambli, Sunita Kambli, Kiran Kambli, Ganesh Deepak Kambli, Siddhi Kambli and Sushmita Kambli, all residents of Verla-Canca – allegedly trespassed into her family's business premises over a personal grudge.
The complainant alleged that the accused abused her, her husband Sagar Gadekar and her sister-in-law Shanaya Gadekar, before assaulting them with slaps, kicks, fist blows and glass bottles, causing injuries. They were also accused of issuing death threats and damaging articles in the shop, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 1 lakh.
Police registered an offence under Sections 332(c), 352, 351(3), 115(2), 118(1), 324(5) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Notices have been issued to the accused.
Shortly thereafter, in a cross complaint, Ganesh Deepak Kambli, a resident of Verla-Canca, alleged that during the same incident at around 10.15 pm on July 26, Sagar Gadekar, Sushant Gadekar and others assaulted his father Deepak Kambli, mother Sunita Kambli and sister Siddhi Kambli over a personal dispute.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly assaulted them with slaps, kicks, fist blows, an iron rod and stones, causing injuries, besides threatening to kill them.
Based on the complaint, police registered an offence under Sections 115(2), 118(1) and 351(3) read with Section 3(5) of the BNS. Notices have also been issued to the accused in the cross case. Mapusa Police is investigating further.
