After years of neglect, the Cuncolim Municipal Hall may finally get a new lease of life. The hall, which has been lying unused due to poor upkeep, has a seating capacity of 800 and could soon be restored following an inspection by the Kala Academy Task Force.
The inspection was carried out by Task Force Chairman Vijai Kenkre and Ravindra Bhavan, Margao Chairman Rajendra Talak, at the invitation of Cuncolim MLA and Leader of Opposition, Yuri Alemao. The team visited the hall to review the existing facilities and identify what needs to be repaired.
Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Landry Mascarenhas joined the inspection, which covered the stage, seating, and the damaged false ceiling. The team confirmed that the hall can be revived with proper modifications.
Speaking to the media, Talak said the Task Force will share recommendations once the Cuncolim Municipal Council sends a formal proposal. “There is definite scope to revive the hall and use it for its intended purpose,” he assured.
The hall was built about 15 years ago with funding from the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), during the tenure of former Urban Development Minister and then Cuncolim MLA Joaquim Alemao. However, it was never fully used due to limited seating, poor sound systems, and the absence of air-conditioning.
Several past attempts to restore the hall failed due to lack of government support. With the recent inspection and commitment from the Kala Academy Task Force, locals now hope the long-delayed revival of the Cuncolim Municipal Hall will soon become a reality.
