Villagers of Curtorim on Friday protested at the Aquem Power house over the frequent power outages in the village.
Led by Curtorim ZP member Michele Rebello, ex-ZP member Moreno Rebello and South Goa district Congress chief Savio D’Silva, the villagers called on senior power officials at the power house to draw their attention over the frequent power outages in the village.
ZP member Michele wondered whether the government expect the women to go to the grinding stone as the power outages brings all household activity to a halt. “Women have to face the brunt of the power outages as they have to complete the work at home within a time frame. I do not know whether the government wants the women to go back to the grinding stone age,” she wondered.
Moreno Rebello demanded to know the fate of the underground cabling project initiated in the village. He said the overhead lines are ageing and prone to falling ground since they must have been erected during the tenure of first Chief Minister Dayanand Bandodkar.
South Goa district Congress President Savio D’Silva pointed out that he has come to lent support to the villagers of Curtorim since they have been facing hardships on the power front almost every day. “I had a booth committee meeting recently and the workers had highlighted the grievances of power outages in the village,” he said.
