Damu returns as Margao Ravindra Bhavan chairman

MARGAO
Two-time former BJP MLA Damu Naik is back in the saddle as chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

For nearly a year now, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, had been functioning without a chairman and its day-to-day affairs were being looked after by the Member Secretary after the government had on November 26 last year dissolved the General Council as well as the Executive Board of the cultural institution.

Though there were speculations that Damu Naik will return to head the Ravindra Bhavan, the former chairman had repeatedly denied having any plans to take over the reins of the cultural institution.

Director of Art and Culture, Sagun Velip, told The Goan that the government has issued an order appointing Damu as the Ravindra Bhavan chairman.

He said the government has constituted the General Council and the Executive Board too.

The General Council comprises Sudesh Gurudas Nagvekar, Umesh Krishna Bandodkar, Rosario Santano Araujo, Shridhar M Pai Kane, Conceicao Diago D’Silva, Chandan Narayan Nayak, Gajanan Amey Prakash Karmali, Manohar Vishnu Borkar, Ranjita Sandesh Pai and Kalidas Mukund Verenkar.

Damu is not new to the institution, having presided over it for close to five years.

Outgoing Chairman Prashant Naik and his deputy Sai Panandikar had held the position of chairman and vice-chairman for little over two years since the duo was appointed by the government by an order dated June 30, 2017.
