Meet discusses ways to take Eat Right Initiative forward

The first meeting of the District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC), South Goa, was held in the South Goa District Collectorate on Tuesday under the chairmanship of South Goa Additional Collector, Agnelo Fernandes, to discuss the Eat Right India Initiative.

Representatives of various government departments and NGOs, including education, civil supplies and consumer affairs, agriculture, women and child development, police made their presentations.

With regard to taking the Eat Right Initiative forward, Goacan made a request to the Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs to prepare a list of the high schools and higher secondaries that have consumer welfare clubs in South Goa so that they may be included in the list of educational institutions targeted by the education department.

Moreover, the NGO suggested that the Directorate of Health Services be requested to ensure that all Urban Health Centres and Primary Health Centres in South Goa issue a monthly update of the number of sanitary cards issued along with the name and serial number and this data be made available at the DHS head office.

The NGO said the Director of Industries, who is a nodal officer for Goa, be further requested to provide a quarterly update regarding the compliance of the ISI mark for food items. 

A suggestion was made to the Education Department to issue the required circular to all high schools and higher secondaries in South Goa to observe the Food Safety Day on 7th June and the same be included in the school calendars and other activity plans.
