Sources informed that the undertrial, Krishna Savlo Naik, picked up a quarrel with a jail guard who had joined duty in the day and in the ensuing scuffle, the undertrial hit the jail guard on the nose and injured him.
The two were separated by the other security staff but not before the jail guard suffered bruises on his nose and face.
A complaint has been registered at the Mapusa Police Station against the accused undertrial, Krishna Savlo Naik.
“The undertrial has assaulted the jail guard Narayan Naik while performing his lawful duty at around 7.50 am,” said Umesh Sawant, Jailor at the Central Jail, Colvale in his complaint.
The Additional Inspector of Prisons, Ashutosh Apte admitted that there was a fracas between a jail guard and an undertrial in the jail premises.
“An accused and a jail guard had some quarrel and there was exchange of fisticuffs between the two,” Apte said.
Mapusa police have booked an offence against the accused undertrial under Sections 504, 322 and 353 of the IPC
