Declaring Opinion Poll Day as ‘Asmitai Dis’ not enough: Lobo

MAPUSA

Stating that the government’s declaration of Opinion Poll day as ‘Asmitai Dis’ is not enough, Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Micheal Lobo demanded installing the statue of father of the Opinion Poll, Dr Jack de Sequeira in the assembly and celebrate the Opinion Poll day like the Liberation Day.

Addressing a news conference at Calangute on Monday, Lobo urged the government to include the history of Opinion Poll in the history textbooks of primary schools.

“Calangute Panchayat celebrates Opinion Poll day every year and it will complete 51 years on Tuesday. None of the earlier governments have given special preference to the Opinion Poll,” he added.

“Our Goa didn’t merge with Maharashtra because of Opinion Poll. If Goa had merged with Maharashtra, we would have got only 2 MLAs out of 40 and one MP, which would have hindered the development of Goa,” claimed Lobo.

“Opinion Poll is a very important day for Goans, as Goa’s existence and diversity is intact due to the Opinion Poll. This day should be celebrated with great enthusiasm across the State,” stated Lobo.

Calangute Sarpanch Anthony Menezes appealed to participate in the Opinion Poll day celebration near Jack Sequiera Circle at Calangute on Tuesday at 9 am.

ZP member Dattaprasad Dabholkar, Calangute Deputy Sarpanch Rupa Chodankar and panchas were present on the occasion.
