Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday termed the Manohar Parrikar government as “obstinate” on the issue of Mhadei river and said this attitude was leading the people of Goa into a deep abyss of no return on the Mhadei issue.

“Similar to its all-pervasive lackadaisical stand on almost all grave challenges confronting Goa and Goemkars, including the crucial Mhadei river issue, the adamant Parrikar government continues to lead the people of the State into the deep abyss of no return,” the three-time Curtorim MLA said, adding that the Manohar Parrikar’s government does not listen to the pleading judicious voice of Goemkars to safeguard Goa’s vital interests on Mhadei.

“In the past too I have raised the Mhadei issue in both inside and outside the State assembly. During the last one month I have even addressed four letters to the Water Resources Department Minister Vinoda Paliencar on this crucial issue,

including the letter to the minister saying that Goemkars are keen to know the legal status of Goa on Mhadei case,”

he added.

Reginaldo recalled that after the disturbing 23rd August 2018 press statement of the WRD Minister ruling out the question of going to the Supreme Court on grounds that Goa has got adequate water and what if after going to the Supreme Court less water is given to the state, he had the very next date written a letter requesting the government to go in for appeal in the Supreme Court against the anti-Goa Mhadei Judgement.
