MARGAO
Maharashtra Gomantak Party chief Deepak Dhavalikar on Tuesday said the party leadership will take a call whether he should contest the Shiroda by-election or not, even as he said that the MGP is on the move to strengthen the party base in all the Assembly constituencies where the party had polled sizeable votes in the 2017 Assembly election.
He further said the question of resumption of mining operations in the State will be taken directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a solution, exuding confidence that the mining operations will resume in the near future.
“Definitely, I have interest in contesting the Shiroda bypoll, but the party leadership will take a final call. The party did not get justice in the court, but we are confident that the party will get justice in the people’s court,” Deepak told the media on the sidelines of a party meeting at Navelim on Tuesday, adding that the MGP will take a call within the next four days on whether to contest or how to go about the ensuing bypoll for the Shiroda and Mandrem Assembly constituencies.
He reminded the media that the MGP had polled around 5,500 votes in Shiroda in the 2017 Assembly and the party will try again in the constituency in the coming bypoll. “Those who have back-stabbed the confidence of the people for their selfish political gains by resigning from the Congress to join the BJP and contest the bypolls will be opposed by the MGP. The party will not go in appeal to the Supreme Court against the order of the High Court, but the MGP will go to the people’s court to seek justice,” he said.
The MGP president said the regional party has decided to further strengthen its base in all the constituencies where the party had polled sizeable votes. “The MGP is the only oldest political party in the State. It has survived because of the patronage by the people even though our rivals had in the past tried to paint the party in bad light,” he told the workers.
As far as Navelim is concerned, he urged the workers to appoint booth level committees ahead of the preparations for the elections.
On mining, he said the MGP is solidly behind the mining dependents, adding that all the political parties are supporting the cause of resumption of mining operations. “There’s no dispute that all the political parties are in favour of resumption of mining operations. Only a few NGOs are opposed to the mining operations,” Deepak said, adding that the issue will be taken up at the highest level at the level of the Prime Minister for a favourable solution.Ailing CM working, is good, says Deepak on Parrikar’s visit to Secretariat
