PANAJI: Years after being assailed for unwarranted delay, the Central government on Monday unveiled the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) at the ninth edition of DefExpo India, which for the first time has marched into the Goan soil at Naqueri palteau in Betul.
The exhibition of land, naval and internal homeland security systems got off to a booming start on Monday with Defence Minister, who inaugurated the super mega event, thanking the Make-in-India initiative and state government of Goa for being instrumental in drawing overwhelming response to DefExpo from golbal companies.
Speaking on the occasion, Parrikar said, "The participation in Defexpo has surpassed our expectations by 20-25%, which is thanks to
Make-in-India initiative and state government of Goa.
"We have uploaded DPP on the website of the Department of Defence. DPP can boost the agenda for Make-in-India and help our country in achieving the target of making defense related products within the country," he said
Some companies had earlier raised concerns about offset clauses under which a foreign manufacturer is expected to invest a portion of contract value in Indian industry. Parrikar said, "We have ensured that offset clauses are taken care of."
Parrikar also mentioned that under the new DPP, the central government had given topmost priority to defence products designed, developed and manufactured in India to boost 'Make-in-India' initiative.
Later, addressing a press confrence, Parrikar said that it was for the people of Goa to decide on Goa becoming a permanent venue for Defexpo.
Parrikar said, “Majority of Goans had accepted Defexpo as a good initiative. But, some misinformation was spread and certain small section of people had fear in mind about the event.”
Parrikar continued, “I have interacted with people and made it clear that unless it is accepted by people of Goa, we don’t want to progress any further after this Defexpo. But, I am very sure that more than 95% people of Goa will like to have Defexpo because there are lot of benefits for local people in it.”

Set up units in
Goa: Parsekar

PANAJI: Assuring defence manufacturing firms with ‘ease of doing business’, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday invited the firms to set up their units in the coastal state.
“Goa is one of the fastest growing and industrially advanced states in the country. We have significant presence of several public and private sector manufacturing facilities in defence as well as aerospace,” Parsekar said.
“My government has ensured ease of doing business by creating an investment promotion board which acts as a single window for all types of industries,” he said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to invite defence manufacturing companies from across India and the world to come and set up their shop in Goa under ‘Make in India’ programme, a flagship mission envisioned by the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi),” he said.
Parsekar said the Defence Expo will motivate Goan youths to join the armed forces.
It will benefit Goan students, engineers and people as a whole, acquainting them with modern day warfares, he said.

KINECO DOES GOA PROUD,
PRODUCES SONAR DOMES
It was a day of pride for M/s Kineco, a Goan company, manufacturing sonar domes designed and developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
M/S Kinceo became the first Indian company to do so, says the press release, “Only a couple of companies worldwide have the capability of realising such structures.”
This comes comes as a huge shot in the arm for Goa’s image as a manufacturing hub. Besides, this will give a boost to ‘Make-in-India’ campaign.
Sonar domes are used on the hulls of submarines and surface ships to keep equipment which, in turn, is used for detection and navigation and therefore are crucial from security viewpoint. In effect, sonar domes work as a ship’s underwater eyes and ears.
Union defence minister, Manohar Parrikar, will flag off a huge bow mounted sonar dome on March 29, 2016 at the site of Defexpo. Finally, the sonar dome will be delivered to Mazgaon Docks in Mumbai.
