A local from Keri-Mandrem, Mangesh Mandrekar has demanded compensation from the PWD, as his house is facing danger due to the construction of a new bridge in place of the Portuguese era bridge at Keri-Mandrem.
As the bridge over river at Keri-Mandrem had become old, the State government took up construction of a new bridge and on the work on the bridge is going on in full swing.
“Our house is situated near the bridge and before starting the construction work, the PWD officials had assured us that there will be no threat to our house and hence we did not oppose it. The retaining wall of the bridge is high and it will be difficult for us to come on the main road. We will also be not able to take our two wheeler to our house,” said Mandrekar.
“Before starting the construction work on the bridge, the government should have rehabilitated us. But now we will be forced to vacate our house. We appeal to the PWD to compensate us to build a new house. We have submitted a memorandum to local MLA Dayanand Sopte. PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and Deputy Collector Sudhir Kerkar,” said Mandrekar.
