Demand for utilisation of water from mining pits in Pissurle

Valpoi

The Pissurle gram sabha on Sunday made a strong demand or utilisation of water from mining pits for drinking after treating it at a water treatment plant.

This and several other issues, including frequent power failures, were discussed at the meeting which had a good number of people in attendance.

People accused power department officials of negligence in attending to power failures in the last couple of days putting them to hardships. The gram sabha was chaired by Sarpanch Jayshree Parab along with the Deputy Sarpanch Rupesh Gawade. Panch members Sagun Wadkar, Devenand Parab, Laxman Gawade, Sangeeta Mote and secretary Deu Mankar remained present.

Vilas Parab, along with the other villagers, raised the issue of water shortage over the last couple of days. He observed since mining operation has been suspended, the abundant water stored in the mining pits could be used to plug the water shortage.

The gram sabha also strongly demanded a special water treatment plant at the mining pit by utilising funds from the District Mineral Fund. The Sarpanch assured she would submit this demand to the authorities concerned.

Ex-sarpanch Vishwasrao Desai raised the issue of waste water flow and demanded cleaning operation before the rainy season. He feared if the gutter is not cleaned, then the flow will get mixed with river water destroying its ecology.

The panchayat also passed a budget of Rs 1.05 cr for the current year, a major chunk of which will be utilised for developmental works.

At the beginning, Secretary Deu Mankar read the minutes of the last gram sabha. Jayshree welcomed the gathering, while Devenand Parab proposed the vote of thanks.
