The Bombay High Court at Goa has stayed the construction of a structure at the Vagator beach and ordered that no commercial activities be carried out at the site after petitioners pointed out that the structure that was demolished twice by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) was mushrooming once again.
In an order passed on Monday, the High Court bench of Justices Sadhana Jadhav and Manish Pitale ordered to stop the illegal commercial activities being carried out pending final hearing of the petition to stop the illegal, any further construction work being carried out in the properties.
“It is in these circumstances that it would be necessary to restrain respondent No 10 from undertaking commercial activities, so also, the construction at the said site needs to be stayed forthwith,” the High Court ruled.
The structure was built in the premises owned by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC).
The GCZMA told the court that on prior two occasions a structure that had come up in the property was demolished for being in violation of the Coastal Zone Management Rules and was illegal.
