Goalkeeper-turned-politician Avertano Furtado has become the former minister in the Manohar Parrikar regime in 2012 nominated by Congress for the Navelim seat. Even as Avertano has edged past young Rehan Muzzawar for the prized ticket, the focus has not shifted to Velim and Benaulim, where former MLAs Benjamin D’Silva and Mickky Pacheco, who were part of the Manohar Parrikar-government in 2012, are waiting to know the fate of their claim for the Congress tickets.
