In a surprising turn of events, Dr. Uday Kakodkar, the nodal officer of Superspeciality blocks at Goa Medical College (GMC), has withdrawn his earlier warning issued to heads of departments, cautioning them against consuming street side food alleging that the vendors are using untreated water.
Kakodkar's initial note, issued on Friday, that went viral on social media on Saturday, had raised concerns about the vendors' use of water from outdoor garden faucets, which was reported to contain treated sewage.
The note was withdrawn within few hours of going viral. However, GMC's SSB failed to give specific reason for withdrawal of the note.
“With reference to the above note, it is to bring to your kind notice to all the Incharge of different Wards/Sections/Offices/Casualty/Pharmacy of Super Speciality Block that the said note stand withdrawn with immediate effect,” the note says.
The water, described as STP/waste water from the SSB hospital, was deemed as potentially unsafe for drinking and cooking purposes due to the presence of bacteria or a mixture of different chemicals, rendering it unhygienic.
Staff members were urged to refrain from visiting or purchasing food from these street vendors to avoid potential health risks.
