PORVORIM
Calling upon the youth to fight the menace of drugs and reduce drug trafficking, Director General of Police Jaspal Singh has said that skits, theatre, counselling and drama are powerful ways to convey a strong message to people about the bad effects of drugs.
He was speaking at the programme organised by the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation to commemorate International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on the theme “Say yes to life and no to drugs” at Porvorim.
“Abuse and the illicit trafficking of drugs is an evil in our society. We can fight against the menace of drugs and reduce drug trafficking if the entire society and youth come forward,” said DGP Singh.
“There is a need to raise awareness about the impact and negative consequences that drugs have on society. We have to educate people about the bad effects of drugs. Skits, theatre, counselling and drama are powerful ways to convey a strong message to the people.
Speaking further DGP Singh said people should remain vigilant and inform law enforcement agencies about suspicious activities they come across in their respective areas.
“Narcotic drugs will in no way meet and solve the problems of life and one should live a healthy life by keeping themselves away from the drugs,” said DGP Singh, while lauding the role of police in creating awareness against drug abuse and drug trafficking.
On the occasion, security guards, housekeeping attendants and staff of the corporation presented a skit on the ill effects of drug abuse. Certificates were also presented to those participating in the skit. An anti-drug pledge was administered to all present on the occasion.
Earlier, GHRDC MD Narayan Navti welcomed the gathering, while John Aguiar later proposed a vote of thanks.
