Expressing anguish with central officials for favouring non-Goans for jobs at public undertakings in the State, Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik has warned that this will not be tolerated in future.
Shripad Naik mentioned that such instances have happened in the Postal Department and Goa Shipyard Limited.
"Out of a list of 84 posts which has been filled recently by Goa Shipyard, there are hardly two or three Goan names. These were all normal posts,” said Naik.
“A few days back, we saw in the post and telegram department that many youths who were working as branch post masters on a contract basis were not selected to permanent posts and outside people were given jobs. Do not test the tolerance levels of Goan youth,” warned the minister.
“What has happened in post offices should not be repeated. The Goa Shipyard MD has also been informed about this,” he said.
"I want to warn public undertakings in Goa that they should give priority to Goan youth. If they don't do this, they will have to face the cost. Priority should be given to Goans in skilled and unskilled jobs,” said Naik.
The union minister claimed that while setting up an All India Ayurvedic College in the State, he has put a clause in the agreement that 80 per cent of the jobs should be given to Goan youth.
Justifying his stand about the priority of jobs to locals, Naik argued: “If outsiders come here, then it is a burden on Goa. We have to provide electricity and water to them. Goa has to suffer on all sides. Priority should be given to locals in every state.”
