Minister of Public Works Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar held a series of meeting with ruling MLAs peeved over the delay in sanctioning of works by his department.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Dhavalikar said that various tenders for the pending work will be tendered soon and the work is expected to begin after the rains in September. “I have ordered the speedy processing of the tenders. We have taken up to Rs10 crore work immediately in every constituency. The work will start from September,” Dhavalikar said adding that works to the tune of Rs15 crore will be taken up in each constituency.
A bulk of the spending will be from the ‘planned’ budget head while the rest will come from the revenue budget head, Dhavalikar announced.
Tuesday’s meetings were held along with the concerned PWD engineers as the MLAs narrated how the works have remained pending for several months now.
The MLAs have submitted proposals for works to the tune of Rs20-25 crore in each constituency ranging from infrastructure upgrades to utilities and other civil works.
The MLAs have been complaining that in the absence of the Chief Minister, the pace of government processes has slowed down significantly and has caused a huge pendency and backlog of files to be cleared.
The situation is not helped by the fact that several officials are on leave on account of the summer vacations.
The largest chunk of expenditure of the current government has been through the PWD with the CM earlier giving the PWD Minister a free hand for expenditure to the tune of around Rs1500 crore.
