Did Goa Excise turn a blind eye?

MARGAO: While the Maharashtra Excise sleuths have been the cynosure of all eyes in the busy Khareband locality as they went about their raid in the video shop, the huge Sunday crowd that assembled along the main road had one question as to how the racket had escaped the attention of the local Excise officials.

That’s not all. None of the local excise officials were present when the raid started early morning and ended at around 2 pm. When The Goan tried to contact Excise Inspector Nilesh for more details, his cell phone was repeatedly found switched off.

Mumbai excise officer, Subhash Jadhav, however, told local media that the Maharashtra team tried to contact the Goa Excise, but were informed that they were busy with the elections for the Corporation of the City of Panaji. “Normally, excise from the two states cooperate in such investigations, but today, the local excise was busy with the election”, Jadhav added.
