Digambar hits out at critics

MARGAO

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Friday hit out at critics, even calling upon the Margao municipal councillors that they need not care for the critics if their conscience is clear.

He was speaking at the Margao Municipal Council after launching the senior citizen help desk set up by the civic body.

Without taking names, Kamat said people who criticise others need to take responsibility, but pointed out that people do not trust these people. “People of Margao know these persons. They should get elected first and do good work. No one stops them from contesting the election,” he said.

He added: “If people are not ready to accept them, why they should criticise those who do good work? I tell the councillors that you should not fall prey to the machinations of such people. If your conscience is clear, there is no need to care for these people. Let us see what happens in the future,” he added.

The Margao MLA complimented MMC chief Damu Shirodkar and the councillors for the good initiative in setting up the senior citizen help desk at the civic body. “This is a good step by the Margao municipality, which will go a long way in mitigating the hardships faced by the senior citizens,” he said.

Kamat further promised his full support and cooperation to the Senior Citizens Federation led by President Diego Da Costa in addressing the grievances of the senior citizens.

Chairperson Damu Shirodkar, in his address, pointed out that he is only the medium wherein development, whether in his Aquem ward or outside, is taking place in the city, saying the development work is being carried out in coordination with the Margao MLA.

President of the Senior Citizens Federation Diego Da Costa highlighted the issues plaguing the senior citizens and urged the Margao MLA to take them up with the Chief Minister.
