Prominent Indian Origin Member of Parliament in the UK Keith Vaz has expressed his disappointment with the verdict, but has refused to speculate on the fate of Goan or other immigrants in the UK.
“The issue of EU citizens remaining in the UK is a matter for the negotiation between Britain and the EU. There are currently 1.2 million British citizens living in the European Union and 3 million European citizens living in the United Kingdom. Their status will not be made clear until after the negotiations has been completed,” Vaz said in a statement to The Goan.
Vaz, who had earlier made it very clear that he was voting ‘remain’ in the Brexit referendum, said that the outcome of the poll was “very disappointing” and a “crushing day for Europe.”
"I am very disappointed about this result. This is a crushing decision and a terrible day for Britain and a terrible day for Europe,” Vaz said adding that “We must work together with our European neighbours during this time of uncertainty to secure a stable future for our citizens both at home and abroad.”
