Director of Education (DoE) Govind Bhat on Monday pacified the agitated parents of Nuem-Shristhal Government Primary School (GPS), asking them to keep a close watch on their school from anti-social elements.
The angry parents and many residents of the locality at Nuem-Shristhal had decided not to send their children to school, fearing for their safety after the school premises were vandalised five days ago, the fourth such incident in recent times.
During Bhat's visit to the school, the aggrieved parents complained that despite lodging police complaints and informing education authorities, no one had bothered either to inquire about the welfare of students nor was any aattention given to the school building.
The parents were more concerned over reports that the anti-social elements had attempted to contaminate the water used by the school children.
Bhat reportedly assured to take measures to repair the school building, but expressed helplessness to immediately act in the matter as the building is presently in possession of election authorities.
“The code of conduct is in force till March 11, and we are helpless to attend to the school building, but we will surely do something sooner than later,” Bhat assured.
Bhat also asked parents to provide drinking water bottles to their children from their homes. “Let no one use water from the school water tank, till it is sanitized.”
Satisfied by the assurances, parents decided to call off the protest and agreed to send their children to school from Tuesday.
Canacona Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan coordinator and ADEI Canacona were also present during the director's visit to the school.
