A disease in Sattari taluka is reported to have claimed the lives of over 100 stray and pet dogs in the past two months.

The situation has sparked fear among residents, who have demanded that the government provide door-to-door veterinary services to combat the outbreak.

The disease, which has affected both stray and pet dogs, has been characterised by symptoms such as loss of appetite, lethargy, and difficulty in walking. If left untreated, the disease has proved to be fatal.

According to reports, the disease has spread to several villages in the taluka, including Nagargao, Sawarde, and Khotoda.

Authorities have assured residents that the disease is not transmissible to humans. However, the lack of door-to-door veterinary services has exacerbated the situation, leading to a rise in dog deaths.

The veterinary department has stated that the disease is treatable with vaccines and saline solutions, but locals haver, however, demanded that the government provide door-to-door veterinary services to treat affected dogs.

They claimed that many pet owners are unable to bring their dogs to veterinary clinics at Valpoi, especially in rural areas where transportation is a challenge. The residents are also seeking compensation for the loss of their pets and measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

Health officials have appealed to residents to play a crucial role in preventing the spread of the disease by ensuring their pets are vaccinated and seeking veterinary care promptly if they notice any symptoms.
