The Goa Youth Congress has demanded that five intern medical students who were found in possession of
drugs should be treated on compassionate grounds and rustication was a very harsh measure.
The Agassaim police have registered an offence against unknown persons after a small quantity of ganja was found in the common room of GMC hostel.
“Rustication will ruin their career. Instead, they should be treated as victims of the drug trade”, said Varad Mhardolkar, Goa Youth Congress president. A mistake has happened, but they should be forgiven, he added.
He said drugs have reached nook and corners of the state and demanded drug traders should be caught and penalised by the government, not the victims of the drug trade.
Meanwhile, a show-cause notice has been issued to the warden of the GMC hostel.
