It has been a momentous occasion for the Ferrão family from Santarxette-Aldona for the third time in less than three decades, with a family member being appointed auxiliary bishop in 1994, an archbishop in 2004 and now, a cardinal on Sunday.
The Ferrão household has been busy receiving congratulatory messages from relatives, friends and residents of Aldona on Sunday, following news that their family member Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão had been appointed Cardinal. “While I am very happy, I am also conscious that my brother will face new challenges. We as a family pray tonight that God will give him the strength to do more for the Church. This indeed is a joyous time of rejoicing for Catholics in Goa,” said Octaviano Ferrão.
Added Marielou Ferrão, niece of Cardinal-designate Filipe Neri Ferrão: “As a family we have shared many special moments but today’s announcement gives us another spectacular occasion. The Ferrão family is together today and rejoicing over the unexpected, which was really so expected.”
“I have known T Filipe over 19 years but more than an uncle, he has been a mentor and friend. I strive to emulate his passion, enthusiasm and dedication even in the most mundane of household tasks!”
“Today as our home is abuzz with congratulatory messages, we can only give thanks for the wonderful gift of T Filipe to our Ferrão family and the Catholic community of Goa,” added Marielou.
