The Calangute Panchayat which had prepared the draft coastal zone management plan (CZMP) for the village and sent to Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has kept the draft for public viewing in the panchayat office.
“The draft CZMP which was sent to GCZMA is now displayed in the panchayat and is available for public viewing,” said Francisco Rodrigues, sarpanch of Calangute.
It may be recalled that the coastal panchayat had hired the services of a private agency, Turbo Sketch Shop to survey the coastal area and prepare the draft CZMP for the village on October 3.
The sarpanch informed that the draft CZMP has been prepared by incorporating suggestions and views of the locals in the village.
“Suggestions regarding sand dunes, vegetation, fishing zones, structures has been included in the draft coastal plan,” Rodrigues said.
The sarpanch also informed that officials of the fisheries department along with the local fishers went around identifying areas to erect sheds for fishing nets in the village.
“Since the fisheries department provides funds to erect such sheds we have asked the local fishers to take advantage of the facility. They have already identified the spots along the coast,” he
said. According to the sarpanch three spots have been identified in Baga, one each at Umta-vaddo and Khobra-vaddo, three at Tivai-vaddo and two each at Maddha-vaddo and Gaura-vaddo.
