Fear has loomed large on various establishments in the port town, after the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) continued the drive of sealing
shops not having valid trade licences.
MMC staff have been on a random check up of various commercial establishments in different areas and seem to immediately seal shops that are operating without a valid trade license. Around 14 shops in different locations were sealed in Vasco till Friday evening.
When contacted, MMC Chief Officer Johnson Fernandes, who is holding additional charge, he informed that while holding additional charge, he realised that there are many places where trade is conducted without obtaining trade licences.
“I checked up the fiscal phase of this council and I came to know that there are lots of outstanding dues from house tax arrears as well as trade license. I also realized that there are many places where trade is conducted without obtaining trade licences and that’s why, I
gave instructions to my staff to carry on this drive from
March 16.”
“Till now, we have sealed about 14 shops at various places, which were found conducting trade without proper trade licences,” said Fernandes.
“This drive will obviously continue so as to nail down each and every culprit who is conducting trade without licence. I would earnestly request each and every
Vascokar to come forward and register with the council to conduct trade and
also request Vascokars to cooperate because they cannot take MMC for granted,” the MMC chief officer
added.
