Drug overdose: Driver who allegedly supplied cocaine to student held

Calangute Police on Sunday arrested taxi driver Prathamesh Palyekar who allegedly supplied cocaine to a student who was on a holiday in Goa two weeks back.

The B-Tech student from Andhra Pradesh, Devineni Chaudhary, who had arrived in Goa along with two other friends on September 20, had boarded a tourist taxi at the Dabolim airport.

On the way to Calangute, where they had booked a hotel for their stay, the trio was allegedly offered cocaine by the driver.

After consuming the narcotic substance, Chaudhary complained of uneasiness after which he was rushed to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim.

The student, who survived a drug overdose, was later discharged and was believed to have escaped home to avoid any inquiry.

Calangute Police informed that the main supplier of the drug has also been identified and a search was on to arrest him.
