The issue of dust pollution caused due to the underground power cabling work was discussed at the Azossim-Mandur gram sabha with a local demanding that water be sprinkled on the dug portion to give relief to the locals.
Speaking at the Azossim-Mandur gram sabha on Sunday, a Azossim local Milton Pereira pointed out that due to digging of roads for underground power cabling, the dust enters the houses thereby putting the locals to great inconvenience.
“There is a need to use water sprinklers to control the dust pollution,” Pereira stated.
St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar who was present for the gram sabha, however, said that if water is used then the dug portion of the road could develop potholes, thereby creating more problems.
“I request the public to bear the inconvenience for some time till the work on the underground power cabling is complete,” Borkar appealed.
However, local Pereira demanded that water be sprinkled on the dug portion of the road to give relief to the locals from dust pollution.
The issue of garbage woes in the village was also discussed with sarpanch Prashant Naik urging the locals to hand over dry waste to the workers who are employed by the panchayat for the same.
“Please do not throw garbage on roadsides or in the fields,” Naik appealed to the villagers while urging them to keep the village clean.
The villagers however said that there is a need to create awareness among the public about the dangers posed by burning of plastic waste.
“Some people burn plastic which is not right and there is a need to make these people aware about ill effects of burning plastic,” a local said.
MLA Borkar said that he would conduct awareness on garbage in the village with the help of experts.
“Next month, awareness programmes will be organized in the village wherein experts will give talks on waste management,” Borkar said.
The issue of migrant verification was also raised with the sarpanch listing out various households wherein migrants are being given rooms on rent.
Sarpanch Naik said that in some cases, the police verification is done but in some cases, it is not done.
“I will again approach those who have not done police verification to get it done at the earliest,” he added.
The issue of saline water entering some houses due to breaches in the bundh was also discussed with the panchayat being urged to ensure the repairs are undertaken at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the budget estimates of over Rs 1.7 crore was approved at the meet.
