Dy sarpanch poll at Chimbel

Dy sarpanch poll at Chimbel

OLD GOA: Election to the post of deputy sarpanch at Chimbel will take place in the panchayat hall on Wednesday morning.

The election was necessitated after the post fell vacant due to the resignation of former deputy sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar last month.

Panch Rajesh Vernekar from the ruling panel, backed by the local MLA Babush Monserrate is likely to be nominated as candidate to the post,

However, sources close to the opposition panel informed The Goan that a senior BJP leader from St Cruz constituency was making efforts to persuade one of the ruling panchas to switch sides.

When contacted, one of the opposition panchas confirmed that efforts were being made to muster the support of a panch from the ruling panel, but in the same tone added that no headway was made.

Currently, the ruling panel has a wafer thin majority with the support of six panchas in the 11-member Chimbel Panchayat.

It remains to be seen whether the ruling panel will suffer a setback or will it be a smooth sailing as panch Mohan Narve insisted that all six panchas are united.
