DySP assures tourist-taxi assn to write to RTO

Proactive police action against erring rent-a-car owners gave some fillip to the movement of tourist-taxi association members on Tuesday.

Police booked six rent-a-car owners in Calangute, even as the RTO flying squad detained another six rent-a-car owners in the afternoon.

Some 31 members of Tourist-taxi association led by President Vasudev Arlekar, Secretary Vinayak Nachinolkar and spokesman Bappa Korgoankar went to Calangute police station to inquire about police action on illegal rent-a-car business.

Porvorim DySP Nelson Albuquerque told the association members that police take action on erring motorists and challan them. The courts impose fine and release their vehicles, later he added.

“We don’t have any further powers. Now we will write to the RTO and ask them to take necessary action against the erring dirves,” Albuquerque said.

Porvorim DySP, Nelson Albuquerque and PIs of Calangute and Saligao, Tushar Vernekar and Rajesh Kumar were present at the police station.
