Dabolim International Airport will be shut for flight operations from March 1 to March 31 from 10 pm to 4 am to carry out the remaining extension work on the shoulder of the runway.
At the request from the airport authority, the navy had stopped the extension work of the shoulder of runway as the tourist season had started.
Paying heed to the request of the airport authority, the navy stopped the extension work and had allowed the airport authority to handle the charter flights.
The Airport director K S Rao stated that the navy has informed them that the flight operations will be restricted from March 1 to March 31 from 10 pm to 4 am to carry out the remaining work of the extension of the shoulder of the runway.
“The navy had carried out the extension work of the shoulder of the runway from October to November 2015. However, it was stopped at our request as it was hampering the handling of the charter flights as the tourist season had already started,” said Rao.
“Since it was decided in earlier, the flight operators were informed well in advance about the change in timing,” added Rao.
“The carrying out of the remaining work of the extension of the shoulder of the runway will not hamper the flight operations,” added Rao.
It may be recalled that the navy had started the extension work of the shoulder of the runway from October 1 to November 30, 2015 and the flight operations were restricted from 10 pm to 4 am.
