Wheelchairs issue taken up at GMC
PANAJI: The issue of non availability of wheelchairs for patients was taken up by the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) with an inspection leading to the medical superintendent issuing a notice to see that the chairs were in place.
Responding to a case filed by Advocate Satish Sonak and Valmiki Naik who complained of violation of human rights due to non availability of wheelchairs, the GHRC ordered for an inspection of the hospital.
Following the inspection that was also attended by the Disabilities commissioner, the medical superintendent Dr Sunanda Amonkar agreed to issue a circular to staff to ensure availability of wheel chairs in casualty by seeing to it that chairs taken in other OPD were promptly returned to casualty.
The issue of filling vacant posts of ward boys was also discussed. The case before the Rights Commission is now posted to April 22.
