Galgibaga road work resumes as PWD accepts demands
Inspection of site for bridge also undertaken

Residents of Galgibaga on Tuesday allowed the resumption of work of a four-lane road, after PWD officials are reported to have agreed to their charter of demands.
PWD executive engineer Rajendra Kamat led the officials for a discussion with the locals led by AAP representatives. The PWD accepted most of the demands of the locals while undertaking a tour of Talpona-Galgibaga route to inspect the river points for the upcoming Galgibaga bridge.
PWD officials showed residents the route of the four-lane road and the residents demanded the provision of retaining walls, realignment of nullahs, retention of nullahs, construction of culverts and drainages.
While agreeing to these demands, the PWD also agreed to complete these provisions before onset of monsoon to avoid flooding in the area.
According to the locals, the PWD agreed to alter its original plan and to provide a service road on both sides of the four-lane road.
The PWD officials also accepted a demand to display the name board, besides watering the land fill site on a daily basis to minimize dust pollution, shifting the steel yard away from residential locality and to provide toilet facilities to workers to avoid open defecation.
Another demand to make provision for a separate electrical transformer for the steel yard and other road-related works so that power supply to the locals is not disturbed, was also accepted. PWD has agreed to intimate the electricity department in this connection.
During Galgibaga bridge site inspection, PWD officials reportedly agreed to the demand for a footbridge at the lowest level. The PWD agreed to put forth the demand to the PWD (Bridges) officials concerned. The PWD officials also agreed to retain a cross at its original place.
Poinguinim Sarpanch Mahesh Naik, Galgibaga parish priest Fr Simon Fernandes, AAP’s representatives Sandesh Telekar, Ervilho Barretto, besides local residents Dominic Paes, Pedro Barretto were present during the site inspection.
Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Bhushan Prabhugaonkar also interacted with the team of PWD officials, which included Canacona AE Laximikant Naik and JE Nagraj Adpaikar, when the team visited the Maxem side of Galgbaga river.
